Brown Banana Worm Castings "Extract" has living and breathing microorganisms. It is 100% Organic, all natural, and has no added chemicals like other major brands. The microorganisms are considered dormant until application. We brew our Extract fresh weekly (here in Phoenix, AZ) to ensure you receive the freshest Extract. But feel free to push the expiration date if you feel comfortable. Expired Extract won't hurt your plants. The potency and efficacy will just diminish over time. If you're buying from out of state, please be aware of the expiration date and plan out your applications accordingly to ensure you receive the best results.

Without writing an entire blog on this description page, the basic differences between Worm Castings Extract and Worm Castings Tea, is that Extract is less volatile than Tea and has a much longer shelf-life. With Extract, the microorganisms are dormant and will wake up once they are introduced to food (i.e. soil or compost). With Tea, the microorganism population is much higher and extremely volatile. They are not dormant because they have been introduced to some sort of food source. Therefore, the shelf-life with Tea is less than 48 hrs, unless you continue to feed it and provide it oxygen. Some day we plan on providing a Tea product, on a pre-order basis and set pickup date. Please drop us a line to let us know if you would like us to offer this product.

The other difference between Extract and Tea is that Tea is better as a foliar spray. Both work as foliar sprays, but Tea is more efficient and more beneficial. However, on the flip side, Extract is best for adding it to your soil as feedwater. Whereas Tea tends to stick to surfaces and the beneficial microbes in Tea have a harder time getting down to your roots. So know what your use-case is before buying.

DIRECTIONS (HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN TEA):

Add 1 Gal of Brown Banana's Worm Castings Extract into a 5 Gal bucket of rain water or dechlorinated tap water. Make sure the bucket is only 3/4 full or less.

Add 1 Teaspoon of Liquid Humic Acid

Add 1 Teaspoon of Fish Hydrolysate

Add 1 Teaspoon of Soluble Kelp

Aerate the water with a fish tank aerator for 16-24 hours. Be sure the air bubbles come from the bottom up. Be sure the ambient temp is 65° - 85°

You can then use the tea straight or dilute it with more rain water at a 1:1 ratio or up to a 1:100 ratio.

Application is best used as a foliar spray and not feedwater.
